AM Feed

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The AM Feed will be taking a hiatus as we evaluate our goals, format, and content. If you have ideas or suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to email us at afv@americanfamilyvoices.org.

This rubber-stamp Congress has stood by idly while the Bush administration has dragged our country into the war in Iraq, writing blanks checks to private companies with no-bid contracts who are raking in millions of dollars of profits. War is big business and these companies are making a killing in Iraq.

AM Feed - July 26: Troop Levels in Baghdad to Increase

Hot Topics

  • Yesterday, well over three years into the conflict in Iraq, President Bush announced an agreement with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to send more U.S. troops into Baghdad to quell ongoing violence. This announcement, which came as Maliki is visiting the U.S., serves as yet another reminder that the administration’s multiple rosy predictions about the Iraqi insurgency were all way off the mark. There are currently 127,000 U.S. troops still serving in Iraq. The new plan calls for some to be diverted to Baghdad from other regions in the country. It is unclear right now how this announcement will impact plans to drawdown troops by the end of the year. [link]
  • The Bush White House still isn’t backing down on the issue of military tribunals for detainees, despite a recent Supreme Court decision that torpedoed the existing system. The administration is working on legislation to change the system – but the “new” ideas reportedly include exempting detainees from Geneva Convention guidelines. A major part of the recent Supreme Court ruling held that such international guidelines do, in fact, apply to detainees – which means that, if the administration proceeds, this is yet another case where the Bush team is blatantly disregarding another branch of government. • A survey conducted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors has revealed that, nearly five years after 9/11, U.S. cities are still woefully unprepared to face a disaster. Eight in 10 cities say their emergency responders cannot communicate with each other or nearby towns, and nearly 75 percent say they cannot handle a flu pandemic. The survey included 183 cities in 38 states. Most cities say they have not received the funds necessary to update communications systems for police and firefighters. [link]

Quote of the Day

“It kind of reminds…I could use the Third Reich, the big lie.” – Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), comparing people who are concerned with global warming to Nazis. Inhofe has also said that global warming is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” and that Al Gore is “full of crap.”

Morning Snark

  • If Sen. Inhofe is going to continue to deny global warming in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence, maybe the air conditioning in his Washington, DC, office should be shut off all Summer so he can realize just how not warm things are getting.
  1. I suppose Inhofe thinks the world is flat, too! Ignorance is bliss, I guess. What does he call the warming ocean temps, the melting glacial cap and glaciers as well as the thawing tundra? The Republican Party is full of ignoramusi, pity on the rest of us.

And, too bad our esteemed prez didn’t consider the sanctity of life (as he says he did in blocking funding for stem cell research) when he made the decision to invade Iraq. Now over 3,000 US troops dead, 10’s of thousands of Iraqi civilians dead and a mounting toll of dead, dead dead all across the Middle East because of his failed policies and lack of leadership.

    AAarrghhhh!

  2. Inhofe sees the melting of the glaciers and thawing tundra as an opportunity to exploit more land. If you can’t make money off of it, the land is just a bunch of dirt and rocks and trees and wildlife – worthless stuff.

He’s an idiot just like our idiot king Dubya.

Somebody save us from the fools !!!!!!!

  3. I’m glad I believe in karma. bush is making sure he and his decendents will be paying for all of his crimes for an eternity !!!

Too bad we can’t see him pay for them in gitmo. He has done more harm to this country than all of the guys there now.

  4. Will Inhofe believe in Global warming when the last Polar bear drowns at the north pole? I’m sure the Inuits know something is wrong.
As for the US pushing democracy on the middle east, That idiot Bush wouldn’t know it if he saw it.

  5. The only thing the repugs are concerned about is money, money, and more money. They do not care about the American people (unless they have money) or the human race for that matter. Only those folks who can line their pockets are the only ones who are important to president knucklehead and the repugs. Ugh!!!

  6. What can we expect from the fly-over states… and I don’t like karma since these people are just too dumb to be able to connect what they are doing now with their woes in future lives… bring back natural selection!

  7. I believe in natural selection. BYE-BYE Brian.

  8. The Bush administration is signaling that it may approve a plan to build a sprawling new airport along Florida’s Emerald Coast—without first meeting its legal obligation to study the full environmental impacts of the scheme and compare them to other alternatives. The administration is required BY LAW to examine the effects of proposed secondary development as well, such as dredging seagrass beds and relocating gopher tortoises to construct a large marina and apartment buildings on the site of the existing airport. The proposal would also spur the transformation of 70,000 acres surrounding the new airport site—an area dominated by wetlands—into industrial parks, retail space, hotels and residential buildings.

Ultimately, the airport plan would destroy more than 9,000 acres of fragile wetlands, bury more than four miles of streams and destroy habitat for rare wildlife such as the American alligator, eastern indigo snake, gopher tortoise, Florida black bear and flatwoods salamander. The administration should weigh the full impacts of this proposal against more environmentally sound alternatives before announcing its decision on the plan in September.

Now there is no law except what Bush wants.

  9. Perhaps we should determine if Mr. Inhofe has
a bit of ostrich in his blood. That would answer
a few questions. Next we should see how he
benefits from ignoring the truth. That would
    answer the rest.
    Terry    Jul 26, 14:32    #
  10. Well, that’s true, Terry – there’s always an ulterior motive – likely he is invested in the oil industry. I know some oil executives and they’re all, to a man/woman of the belief that global warming or climate change is not occuring and they make sure to scoff at and castigate those realists/intelligent Americans who know otherwise.

  11. The sad truth is that the people of Oklahoma, (at least the majority of them,) voted for Inhofe, (and people like him,) to represent their views. They either agree with him, or aren’t capable of distinguishing how ridiculous he makes them look. This is the vast problem in the majority of the “Red States” and it is a very sad situation of epidemic proportions. These are the same people who want religious views taught as science. They have repeatedly for decades voted against their own self-interests. Until this can be addressed and corrected absolutely nothing is going to change in this country, and subsequently the world. We were once the world leaders… we are now a fat and sad parody of our former selves…laughed at by the more enlightened countries of the world. Thanks GOP (Grand Oil Party).
