AM Feed

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

The AM Feed will be taking a hiatus as we evaluate our goals, format, and content. If you have ideas or suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to email us at afv@americanfamilyvoices.org.

This rubber-stamp Congress has stood by idly while the Bush administration has dragged our country into the war in Iraq, writing blanks checks to private companies with no-bid contracts who are raking in millions of dollars of profits. War is big business and these companies are making a killing in Iraq.

AM Feed - August 8: On Primary Tuesday, All Eyes on Connecticut

Hot Topics

  • Across the country Americans are reminded every day of the worsening situation in Iraq with news of increased sectarian violence and casualties. And today in Connecticut, Senator and former Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Lieberman is facing a primary challenge centered around his support of President Bush in the war in Iraq. Business and political-newcomer Ned Lamont is leading Lieberman in the most recent polls, and as the mid-term elections approach all political eyes await the result of today’s contest which is expected to be a barometer of the role that the war in Iraq will play in Americans’ decisions when they enter voting booths in November. • Despite President Bush’s best efforts to stack the Supreme Court to ensure preferential treatment for his cronies, yesterday the court rejected the Texas Republican Party’s bid to replace disgraced former Majority Leader Tom DeLay on November’s ballot. DeLay resigned from his Congressional seat following a long investigation of his involvement in the House Lobbying Scandal, and an indictment for violation of campaign finance laws in Texas. During his time as Majority Leader, DeLay’s hard hitting political leadership gave him the nickname “the Hammer,” but it looks like he may have slammed his own thumb this time around. His resignation, which came after he defeated several opponents in the Republican primary, was clearly calculated and he was expecting to be able to choose a replacement for his spot on the ballot in November. Morning Snark

  • After all those years of playing the “I’ll scratch your back, if you scratch mine” game with lobbyists in Congress, you’d think DeLay was an expert. But it seems that all of his scratching of Scalia’s back has left DeLay itchy and all alone.
  1. DeLay doesn’t have the power and influence he once had.

  2. Thankfully and hopefully that won’t change for awhile because he’s now living in my state, Virginia, and I don’t want him playing any of his nasty tricks here. We have a hard enough time trying to oust republicans.

  3. If there is an real justice left in this country DeLay and Ney will wind up with Cunningham in prison within the next two years. Good luck in Virginia. We have a couple of rotten eggs in Illinois too.

  4. Yeah, and out here in California, Senator Babs Boxer is campaigning for Joementum against Ned Lamont. What a turd…

  5. Once this election is over, I hope everyone will turn their attention to the race for governor in Ohio – between Ken “voter fraud” Blackwell, and Democratic opponent Ted Strickland. Blackwell’s strategy appears to be to use the wedge issues of abortion and gay marriage to rev up the neocons in Ohio. Many of the mega-churches are rallying around him, and whipping their huge congregations into a fervor. Their true purpose is undoubtedly to keep the “faith based initiative” dollars flowing their way, but their faithful flocks don’t seem to be able to see through that. Help!

  6. I don’t know Jyl, you’ve got your work cut out for you dealing with those intolerant masses. I view Ohio as a lost cause – Illinois, now, gives me more hope. But Ted Strickland seems like a good man (although I wonder why he voted no to raising the CAFE standards for automobiles). Do you really think he’s electable in Ohio?

  7. Keep an eye on Wisconsin, too. Former Representative Mark Green, who is a King George the 43rd Ass-kisser, is running for Governer, and he is scary!

  8. Personally, I think, Scalia rejected the Delay bit because it was an easy way to
show he’s a fair minded jusitce. This is
one issue he can point to and say, “See
I do rule against the right wing” (especially when the stakes aren’t that high). I don’t count this as a substantive win. Taking over the house or Senate would be.

  9. Oh balls, Cynthia McKinney went down in flames…
