The AM Feed will be taking a hiatus as we evaluate our goals, format, and content. If you have ideas or suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to email us at afv@americanfamilyvoices.org.

This rubber-stamp Congress has stood by idly while the Bush administration has dragged our country into the war in Iraq, writing blanks checks to private companies with no-bid contracts who are raking in millions of dollars of profits. War is big business and these companies are making a killing in Iraq.

AM Feed - August 17: Lacking Strategy, Bush Reverts to Throwing Jabs

Hot Topics

  • President Bush delivered a speech in Pennsylvania yesterday, and he used the opportunity to dredge up tired, three year old rhetoric by labeling those who have raised questions about his administration’s (non) strategy in the Iraq War as adopting a “cut and run” strategy. In fact, Bush stated: “If we leave before the mission is complete, if we withdraw, the enemy will follow us home.” Noticeably absent from Bush’s speech: A strategy for victory in Iraq, or even an outline of what the “mission” entails at this point. • The Interior Department has decided to open up vast swaths of the Alaskan wilderness to oil drilling, even as news out of the state has revealed corroded oil pipelines leading to a partial shutdown of operations. The areas now up for leasing include a sensitive tract of wetlands where caribou give birth to their calves, and geese migrate each summer. [link]
  • President Bush’s approval rating has sunk to just 34 percent, according to the latest Zogby poll. Last week’s terror arrests had no impact on Bush’s stature, as his ratings have actually dipped by two points over the last three weeks. In keeping with earlier poll results, 56 percent of Americans feel that the Iraq war has not been worth the loss of American lives. [link]

Morning Snark

  • While in Pennsylvania, Bush visited a Harley-Davidson plant and sat on a motorcycle. It would probably look great in his garage – right next to that Segway scooter he somehow managed to wreck.
