Partisan hysteria should never get in the way of health care.
Tell Susan G. Komen for a Cure to save cancer screenings for poor women.
Susan G. Komen for a Cure, America's best-funded charity to fight breast cancer, bowed to political pressure from anti-choice groups and Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), a fiercely anti-choice member of Congress. They cut nearly $1 million in funding for a program that provides free or low-cost breast cancer screenings for millions of women who get their health care from Planned Parenthood.
To justify its action, the Komen Foundation cited a sham “investigation” into Planned Parenthood by Rep. Stearns, who has been grasping for reasons to limit women’s access to health care.
In the past five years, grants from the Komen Foundation have allowed Planned Parenthood to provide 170,000 breast exams and 6,400 mammogram referrals to women who might otherwise not be able to afford them. By cancelling this funding, the Komen Foundation is depriving thousands of poor women of the cancer screenings that could save their lives.
The petition to the board of the Komen Foundation reads:
"Cancer patients don’t care about political drama. Reverse your decision and restore funding for livesaving breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood clinics."
